Haliday Wildlife Sanctuary|Haliday Island
The Halliday Wildlife Sanctuary,
commonly called Halliday Island, is one of the three Wildlife Sanctuaries of the
Sundarbans Biosphere Reserve, the other two being the Sajnekhali Wild Life
Sanctuary and the Lothian Wildlife Sanctuary. This Island is situated on the river Matla, very close to the confluence
of the Bay of Bengal. Important wildlife includes
the Spotted Deer, Wild Boar, Barking deer and Rhesus macaque. Lots of birds and
endemic invertebrate fauna, much of which has not been properly recorded, are
found on this island sanctuary. Royal Bengal Tigers are occasional visitors to
this Island.
